Mount Vernon Walking Tours
Take a stroll through history with this guided tour of Mount Vernon Place. See the 19th century architecture and hear the stories of the fashionable and wealthy residents who called Mount Vernon their home.
The tour begins in the lobby of the Peabody Court Hotel, 612 Cathedral Street, at 10 AM, Saturday, April through November. The 90-minute tour of Mount Vernon Place is run by the Baltimore Architecture Foundation. Admission is $10 per person and must be purchased in advance. Please call Ed at 410-385-0424. Green Mount Cemetery
Baltimore historian and educator Wayne Schaumburg will lead another set of walking tours through historic Green Mount Cemetery in October. The tours will take place on October 6, 13, 20, and 27. Green Mount opened in 1839 as Baltimore’s first urban-rural cemetery. It is the final resting place of many Baltimore notables including Johns Hopkins, Enoch Pratt, William and Henry Walters, Mary Elizabeth Garrett, Theodore McKeldin, Betsy Patterson Bonaparte, Arunah Abell, Albert Ritchie, John Wilkes Booth, Walter Lord, and the Latrobe family. Tours begin at 9:30 a.m. from the main cemetery gate and last about two hours. Cost is $15 per person and reservations are required.
