After roughing it for many years in some of Baltimore’s best industrial spaces we had such a positive response from everyone who enjoyed the fireplaces, heated rooms, comfortable chairs, and working bathrooms of The Maryland Club, we’ll be going back again this year! The Swingin’ Swamis, plentiful food and drink, carnival games, and auction items will once again be offered amongst the architectural finery of the Club’s parlors.

The Club was designed by the prominent Baltimore firm of Baldwin and Pennington in the Romanesque Revival style in 1891. The Maryland Club features Beaver Dam marble on the exterior while the interiors are a rich interplay of oak, marble, ornate plaster, and faux finishes characteristic of high Victorian tastes of the time. The building today, after it’s 1995 fire, has been restored to its original grandeur and is an architectural time capsule of 19th century Baltimore.

Parking is on site in the Maryland Club lot. Guests can access the lot on the 900 block of N. Charles Street. There is a gatehouse just past Kumari on the right side of the street. Click here for a map showing parking lot and entrance.

For more information on tickets and The Maryland Club, visit our main Groundhog Day Page. We’ve heard the weather report, and although we hope the snow passes us by, foul weather won’t put a damper on the party since we have toasty fireplaces and a fabulously comfortable space to occupy. Parking is on site in the Maryland Club lot. Guests can access the lot on the 900 block of N. Charles Street. There are a large number of terrific Silent Auction items that have been generously donated this year. These will highlight a number of local businesses and institutions and should make for an interesting evening of bidding. We will also be adding some feats of dexterity to the evening that will give folks a shot at some Groundhog & Baltimore Architecture themed prizes, not to mention the notoriety of seeing one’s name at the top of the leaderboard.

Our annual fundraiser is fast approaching. There are only a few days left until we celebrate Groundhog Day on January 30, 2010 (we’ll leave February 2 to Punxsutawny Phil and friends). Once again, our theme is Light & Shadow in honor of the telling shadow of the Groundhog. We encourage black & white cocktail attire, with particular appreciation for artful interpretation of our theme.

After four years exploring some of the most interesting industrial spaces in town, we are changing pace this year by taking the party to one of the most refined spaces in town, The Maryland Club. This is a wonderful opportunity to see this excellent example of late Victorian architecture while supporting the cause of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation in the process.

Parking is on site in the Maryland Club lot. Guests can access the lot on the 900 block of N. Charles Street. There is a gatehouse just past Kumari on the right side of the street. Click here for a map showing parking lot and entrance.

Please join us for our annual fundraiser. The confines will be cozy, with the fires roaring!

Tonight’s the night of the annual Groundhog Day celebration. We are all looking forward to a fun evening at Gaslight Square tonight and hope to be joined by a large group of people interested in Baltimore’s built environment. In our previous post we alerted everyone to the availability of online purchase for tickets to the event. We have now taken that option off-line so that we can finalize our list of pre-paid guests. We apologize if anyone had planned on purchasing at the last minute!

See you tonight!
